A Bibliography of Works in English By and About José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955)

This webpage provides a listing of the works in English by and about the Spanish philosopher, essayist and politician, José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955), who in my opinion is the greatest philosopher of the first half of the Twentieth Century and one of the greatest philosophers of all time. I have been a student of Ortega’s works for over 50 years and I am completely fluent in Spanish. However, I am restricting the coverage of this website to works in English, since my access to materials in Spanish and other languages is limited.

I am a trained librarian and bibliographer who intends to provide not only a complete bibliographic description of each work, but also links to more detailed descriptions of these materials on individual webpages on this website.

It is hoped that this webpage will greatly enhance awareness of the works of this great philosopher among English-speaking persons who have had limited access to his works for linguistic or other reasons.

This page consists of a presentation on the relevance of the thought of the Spanish philosopher, José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955) to Environmental Pragmatism. The series originated in the form of a set of emails sent to the editors and authors of the book Environmental Pragmatism, edited by Andrew Light (London and New York: Routledge, 1995).
